A functional resume is important in order to highlight and value my skills over my job titles. I have had a great deal of experience in various different jobs over the years and thought it beneficial to share a few with you!

Skills
 

Research

  • Study neurogenetic diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia in rodents

  • Talk to people to understand what they know about different neurogenetic diseases

  • Structure interviews that allow interviewee to share experiences and knowledge

Medical Procedures

  • Maintain order of the lab by restocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and sterilizing equipment

  • Conduct lab activities such as surgeries, medication delivery, and ECC training

  • Provide patient-centered care and assistance such as feeding, transportation, and other bed side care to adolescents with chronic health conditions

  • Became well educated on managing patients, maintaining patient satisfaction, and time management

Observant

  • Implement and document different activities that align with patient’s daily goals to improve mobility and cognitive function by observing patient’s progress

  • Shadowed various medical professionals in different areas of the hospital including by not limited to the emergency department, cardiac floor, and ICU for 150+ hours

  • Observed various medical procedures such as sutures, IV placements, etc.

  • Developed individualized lesson plans of swim lesson for all ages and abilities based on observations of their skills

  • Establish empathetic connections with patients, their families, and other care takers on the care team

  • Enhance potential student experience by effectively communicating with them and their families throughout a tour and sharing the experience of life at East Carolina University

  • Effectively communicate with members of a medical team to ensure that patients are receiving adequate care

Accomplishments

These accomplishments are examples of volunteer work, professional organization membership and other accomplishments that relate to my career plan.

Volunteer at Bristol Regional Medical Center

This was one of the first experiences in the medical field that I had. From volunteer, I got to learn about the health care system and how to treat patients. I also got to observe and assist on many medical procedures.

Volunteer at Homeless Shelter Breakfast

This allowed me to begin serving my targeted groups that I hope to reach throughout my career. Through this event, I was able to talk to and listen to stories of people from several diverse backgrounds.

James Clay Young Anthropology Scholarship

This scholarship award allowed me to focus on how I intend on using anthropology in the medical setting. It allowed me to highlight my accomplishments in the anthropology discipline while establishing how I intend on using them as a physician assistant

 Interview Assignment

For my interview assignment, I was not able to interview a medical anthropology; however, I interviewed a faculty member that focuses her research on marginalized populations. From this assignment, I was able to get advice on how to apply anthropology in a medical context while helping these populations.

Member of Tri-Beta Honors Society, ECU Chapter

Membership in this honors society allowed me to explore my biology degree in greater depth. It opened up opportunities to learn about jobs, graduate programs, and many more.
